I love this song by Hillsong, the lyrics are amazing and tells the glorious story of the wonderful gospel we have. My favourite line is from the Bible verse John 8:36 “if the Son sets you free you are free indeed.” The amazing grace of our incredible God!”

“In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. We are at a loss in so many ways, unsure of what to do, unsure of what to say, and unsure of what the future holds.

We offer this simple song, simply played, in the midst of this present trial, so that you might be able to pray these words along with our Saviour. There is a God who is still ruling on the throne, and He is our good and loving Father. If there is anything in which you can put your trust at this uncertain time, let it be the will of your loving Father”.

This is one of my (many) favourite hymns….it cheers, refreshes and uplifts. It helps to focus on Jesus because as a sinner saved by grace there are at least 10.000 reasons to praise and bless the Lord.

The chorus reminds us to bless and worship and sing to the Lord for all his goodness. Jesus knows, loves, saves, forgives, cares and understands. And because of His amazing sacrifice we have healing, hope, freedom, joy and a wonderful future…….the list could go on and on.

The first verse reminds us of God’s faithfulness…the sun comes up. Every day is a gift from God.

The second verse reminds us of what God is like. He is loving, kind and good and wants us to know His love, grace, mercy and compassion on a daily basis.

The third verse reminds is that our life here on earth is short. Our day of death draws closer everyday…and yes, though the process of dying is unknown and scary, for a Christian death has been defeated. It is not the end but the wonderful beginning of an eternity in a new and perfect world……where we will be worshipping and praising Jesus forever.

What reason is there not to love this great song?”

“This is one of my favourite songs. It enhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGOMfE5TaC8courages us to speak to ourselves and remind ourselves of who God is, especially in times of inward struggles of the heart, or difficult outward circumstances – to remember we have a God who is like a rock, solid, unmoving, never changing in His love for us, who trust in the salvation He has given from sin, through Jesus. He calls us to praise Him, delight in Him, and know that He hears us, will have mercy and never fail us. Our trusting souls will find rest”.

“The hymn I have chosen is “Be Thou my vision.” I love the majestic melody and depth of meaning in the lyrics. God is the vision and wisdom in my life.

The inspirational line in verse 3 says ‘may I reach heaven’s joys bright heaven’s sun” reminds me that whatever happens in my life, He is my vision and will remain constant”.

“Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary. When I attended college in Inverness as a fifteen year old, I went to the Baptist Church. The Rev. John Moore was the minister at the time. He was a great influence in my life. I will never forget the night he dedicated the new Hammond Organ by playing and singing ‘Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary’, a hymn that he himself had composed. The words have meant a lot to me ever since”.

“I just love this song, “Jesus Is”, sung by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. No matter what I am feeling I can’t but praise Him when I sing this song. He is everything! Truth, life and only way! I would love to think we could sing this song, when we finally worship again

“Coming from Lewis, Psalms were very much part of childhood in church and school.

The Book of Psalms has a Psalm for all our moods, from joy to sorrow.

It’s difficult to choose a favourite as different times make some more pertinent than others.

Psalm 25 was often sung in Smithton in the past to the tune Dennis. It is a Psalm of David which cries to God for help, asking for forgiveness, whilst acknowledging God’s faithfulness and ability to do it. It asks God to forgive our past sins, whilst leaning on him to lead and teach us in the future.

I like the Psalm for a few reasons. Firstly the wording. It’s a reminder that we need to ask God for forgiveness and trust Him to do so, and lead us if we allow him. Secondly it reminds me of Smithton Church and thirdly, I chose it to be sung at our wedding many years
